Review: RiTA

If you're looking for your next favourite soul/R&B artist, look no further! RiTA will be sure to impress with her original tracks and great covers.

University student Rita Horta, 20, is an unsigned singer, songwriter and producer originally from Portugal but currently based in London. Her music is definitely easy listening and is very relaxing, which is perfect for this hectic time of year!

Her original tracks include 'Parachute', 'Bolder' and 'Trap'.

'Parachute' is a song that really highlights her wide range of skills, from her vocals to her mixing. It's a lovely track that incorporates her soft vocals with a slight electronic beat behind. It sounds as though this is a taster for what is to come from Rita in the future. This song was co-written by Sash Ellis, who also deserves so much credit for the lyrics as they are wonderful.

'Bolder' is a sweet but slightly sad song, but nonetheless is extraordinary. Rita's vocals really are outstanding in this one, and I'm trying to put my finger on who it reminds me of. With just a soft guitar in the background, all focus is on her vocals and lyrics and it's understandable why this song has had numerous plays. This is about as raw as her vocals could probably sound and they are simply amazing.

Another original track is 'Trap', which combines an electronic beat with her stunning vocals to really show off her skill in the R&B genre. It's a little different to the previous tracks, but is a great listen and adds variety. This is a song about battling feelings with someone but at the same time falling for them, which is perfectly encapsulated throughout the verses.

As well as being talented with creating her own original songs, Rita has also done a wide range of covers. One particularly impressive one is her cover of Justin Bieber's 'Sorry'. As someone who can't stand the original version, I'm really happy that there is a better version! This one has taken the song and essentially switched it all around- the tempo has been altered, the drums are different and the pitch of the vocals is so much better than the original. This is a much nicer version to listen to.

Rita is currently working on some new tracks and is hoping to have them available by February.

So if the Christmas songs are starting to get to you or you just fancy something a little different to listen to, go check out RiTA.
